When we feel worried or distressed it can often lead us to fall into negative patterns of thinking and behaving. Working alongside a fully CBT qualified therapist can help you to identify, understand and change problematic thinking styles and/or behavioural patterns. From there, we will establish a tailored and specific set of skills and tools which can be introduced to help you manage positive change and improvement. Once you understand your thinking and your triggers, you can then begin to feel better.
We are here to improve and support your emotional wellbeing in order to make day to day life easier. We will work together using a range of the most current and proven strategies to give you solutions that can help you in the here and now. These strategies can also last a life-time. This does require your commitment, but if you are motivated and determined, then CBT can be life-changing.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that helps you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. It involves using side to side eye movements combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format. This type of therapy can help you to release negative emotions and gain insight into difficult experiences.
How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR therapy works by stimulating the brain's natural information processing system. As we guide you through the process, your brain will begin to process the trauma and make sense of it. We will direct your eye movements while also helping you to identify and process your emotions and thoughts surrounding the trauma. This can help you to gain insight and gain a greater understanding of the experience.
Benefits of EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy can provide numerous benefits for those who are looking to unlock their mental health. This type of therapy can help to reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories, as well as provide insight into difficult experiences. It can also help to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as improve your overall wellbeing.
How many sessions you will need is on an individual basis coupled with your commitment to change and improvement. Each session typically lasts 50-60 minutes.
We use your first session to establish a mutual understanding of your current concerns and how they have developed. We then spend time discussing your history, family of origin and anything significant that might have happened in your past.
During your initial assessment, we will go over the problems you have in detail so we have a shared understanding of what you are experiencing. This allows us to form a picture of how your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, symptoms and behaviours are intertwined with your experiences . This can be a extremely helpful exercise. It can allow you to open your thoughts and mind in order to gain a deeper understanding of why you feel, react and behave in the way that you do.
We will then feedback how we believe CBT can help and the treatment options we feel are the best way forward for you. If you feel comfortable working together, we would then make our next appointment. This would involve a more in-depth discussion and analysis, along with our ideas of what is required to help you move forward, in order to make the necessary positive changes.
CBT is a here and now therapy and deals with the difficulties you have day to day. One tool we use time and time again is asking our clients to keep a diary of the problems they have on a daily basis. This is a great tool to build up a vivid picture and gain insights and knowledge as to why you are affected in the way you are. This allows you to gain a deeper understanding as to why and what is happening and then we can find effective ways to help you do things differently. We also use EMDR Therapy which we are finding highly successful in a lot of cases.
If you decide that you feel CBT is not the right fit for you, then we will always recommend alternatives that we believe could be more suitable. We work closely with a broad network of other experts and mental health professionals.
Each session lasts around 50-60 minutes
